Kirkham continues torrid stretch, Kravig records double-double as Women’s Basketball dominates Dubuque

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — The Coe College women's basketball team picked up its fifth straight victory and improved to 7-0 in A-R-C play Wednesday evening, defeating the visiting University of Dubuque Spartans 77-37 at Kohawk Arena. The hosts were on top from the opening whistle, using a dominant 21-11 first quarter to establish control. Caydee Kirkham exploded in the second quarter, scoring 13 points while adding three assists to help extend the lead to 44-19 at the half. Coe continued to click in the third quarter, putting the game on ice with a 17-7 differential. Kirkham hit the 30-point mark in the fourth quarter as Coe sealed the victory with a 7-0 run to start the final period. The senior from Carthage totaled 31 points, nine assists and four rebounds and was joined by Taryn Kravig and Audrie Helmrichs in double-figures. Kravig recorded her first-career double-double, pulling down 10 boards while scoring 11 points. Hemrichs was ultra-efficient once again, bettering her nation-leading shooting percentage with an 8-for-9 effort as she finished with 16 points.

  • It was early dominance from the hosts, opening the game with an 11-4 run that featured seven points from Kirkham and four from Helmrichs. The Kohawks continued to click for the rest of the quarter, extending the lead to 10 at the end of the frame with a 10-4 spurt. Kirkham took over in the second quarter, scoring 13 points to help extend the lead further. Helmrichs had six more points in the quarter while Kirkham picked up three more assists in the quarter to finish the half with 20 points and seven dimes. The Kohawks put the game away in the third quarter, remaining on top with a 17-7 advantage in the period to lead 61-26 after three. The scoring was more balanced in the frame with five different players recording a bucket but Kirkham added six more to eclipse the 25-point mark. She made it 30 early in the fourth, scoring five unanswered points to start the quarter before exiting with 9:02 to play. Coe's second unit took over and handled business down the stretch, seeing out the victory with ease.
