WAVERLY, Iowa — The Coe College women's basketball team suffered its first A-R-C defeat of the season Saturday afternoon at Wartburg, falling 62-46 to the Knights. Coe and Wartburg started slow offensively in the first quarter, scoring just 17 points combined with the hosts holding a 9-8 advantage. The Knights found their footing in the second quarter, extending the lead to nine before a late charge from the Kohawks cut the deficit to two at half. A late 3 from
Taryn Kravig capped Coe's strong close to the half, making it 23-21 after 20 minutes. Wartburg continued to slowly extend the lead in the third quarter, outscoring Coe 11-7 as the Kohawks shot just 3-of-11 from the floor. A 5-0 run made it an 11-point advantage to start the fourth quarter but Coe hung tough, answering with a 14-7 run to make it 46-42 with 1:55 to play as Kravig capped the spurt with a 3. Wartburg secured a clutch offensive rebound on the next possession, forcing Coe to start ramping up the pressure with fouls.
