CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — The Coe College women's basketball team picked up a dominant American Rivers Conference victory Wednesday evening, defeating the Buena Vista University Beavers 90-40 at Kohawk Arena. Coe was on fire from the opening whistle, outscoring the Beavers 21-6 in the first quarter. Audrie Helmrichs, Taryn Kravig and
Caydee Kirkham helped take over. Helmrichs led the bunch with 11 points in the quarter, followed by Kravig and Kirkham who had six each.
Averiel Brady helped put the game away in the third quarter, leading a 10-0 run with eight points including a pair of 3s. Coe turned to its reserves for the final phase of the game with its commanding lead, seeing out the remaining minutes with ease. Helmrichs led Coe's offensive efforts with 21 points, followed by Kravig who had 18. Brady and Kirkham rounded out the double-digit efforts, adding 12 and 10 points each while Kirkham finished with seven assists and six boards. In total, 13 players registered points in the win while Coe shot 59.4 percent as a team.

- BVU scored the opening basket less than a minute in but the Kohawks answered, ripping off 12 straight points to establish dominance. Knight and Kravig both hits 3s during the run, setting the tone early on. A jumper from the Beavers temporarily stopped the bleeding but another run ensued as Coe scored nine unanswered to go up 21-4. BVU ended the period with a bucket to pull within 15, hitting a jumper to make it 21-6. The Kohawks furthered the lead in the second quarter, using a 14-4 spurt to go up 25. Helmrich scored nine points during the stretch, converting four layups including an old-fashioned 3-point play. BVU steadied the ship over the final five minutes of the period, trading blows with Coe. The Kohawks still outscored the Beavers in the closing minutes, pushing the lead to 30 at 47-17. Coe put the game away early in the third quarter, scoring the first 10 points of the period as Brady knocked down a pair of 3s and a jumper. The Kohawks continued to outscore the Beavers despite going to their bench, edging BVU 33-23 over the final 16-plus minutes of action.
