Coe Volleyball Swept at Home Against Simpson

Coe Volleyball Swept at Home Against Simpson

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Coe College Volleyball team welcomed the Storm on Friday night for a conference match in Cedar Rapids. Kohawk setter Lexi Hammer and middle hitter Mahri Kazmerek were honored for senior night before the match. Coe hitters Tessa Casebolt and Jasmine Shields made their mark on the match, earning 10 and six kills, respectively. The Kohawks finished with a .106 hitting percentage on the night, compared to Simpson's .216 hitting percentage. At the end of the night, the Storm would take all three sets 25-19, 25-18, and 25-21.

GAME FACTS:
COE 0 - SIMPSON 3
  • The first set saw both teams exchanging points, with Casebolt and Shields being a big part of their attack. The set reached a 7-7 draw before Simpson would start to build their lead. A three-point lead for Simpson would dwindle to one as kills from Shields and Kazmerek would give the Kohawks some life. The Storm would win four of the next five points and force a Kohawk timeout at 15-11. Coe would battle back, but ultimately come up short, losing the first set 25-19.
  • Set two started out with the Storm jumping out to an early 3-0 lead, but the Kohawks would respond and bring the game back tied at five. A slew of errors from both sides would keep the score from favoring either team, and the score would be 14-13 before Coe would call a timeout. The timeout would prove to be helpful for the Storm, as they would grab the lead and hold it till the end, winning the set 25-18. The Kohawks hit a lowly .067 percent in the second set.
  • The third set would see the Kohawks come out with energy, as they took an 8-3 lead and would force an early timeout from Simpson. Elise Blaesing earned a few aces on the Kohawk attacking run, adding to her season total of 27 aces so far. Simpson would turn the tide of the third set after their timeout and would steal the lead back from the Kohawks late in the set 18-17. Coe would not make it easy for the Storm as both teams exchanged points. The Simpson offense would be too much for the Kohawks in the end as they would take the third set 25-21.
