CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — The Coe College women's basketball team picked up its fourth straight victory Saturday afternoon at Kohawk Arena, taking down the visiting Loras College Duhawks 73-65. Loras opened the game well, taking a lead near the midway mark of the quarter at 10-6. The Kohawks controlled the closing moments of the first and beginning phase of the second quarter, ripping off a 14-2 run to establish a 20-12 lead with seven minutes left in the half. Coe began to pull away in the third quarter, using a 17-7 stretch to push its advantage to 54-38 with just under four left in the frame. Loras continued to battle despite the deficit, working to get within seven points at the 2:16 mark of the fourth.
Caydee Kirkham, who turned in her 13th 20-point game of the season, put the game on ice with a clutch 3 with one minute to play. In total, Kirkham finished with 25 points, eight rebounds and six assists while playing all 40 minutes.
Audrie Helmrichs posted her eighth double-double of the season, totaling 18 points and 10 rebounds.
Taryn Kravig added nine points while
Averiel Brady (7) and
Laiken Haas (6) rounded out Coe's significant offensive contributions.

- Loras was on fire to start the game, hitting four of its opening five shots to keep pace with Coe and lead 10-6 midway through the quarter. Coe closed the period with a 6-0 run, establishing its first lead since early in the game as Helmrichs scored four points down the stretch to make it 13-12. The scoring run stretched into the second period, adding seven unanswered points that featured a 3 from Brady, layup from Quinn Grubbs and bucket from Kirkham. Loras and Coe traded blows over the next phase, matching one another for the remainder of the opening half. The Duhawks managed to stay within touching distance after 20 minutes, keeping the deficit at seven at the break. Coe slowly built the advantage in the third, edging Loras 14-10 across the opening four minutes as Kirkham and Helmirchs combined for 10 points along the way. 3s from Grubbs and Haas helped push the lead to 54-38 but Loras kept in touch with back-to-back buckets before the end of the quarter, pulling within 12. The Duhawks continued to cut into the lead in the fourth, scoring seven unanswered to begin the period to make it 54-49. The Kohawks steadied themselves during the next phase, outscoring Loras 9-2 as Kirkham and Helmrichs scored all of Coe's points to help clinch the game. Loras made things interesting in the final few minutes with four 3s but Kirkham's game-sealing triple at the one-minute mark ended the game.
