Softball splits games with Wooster & Transylvania on day two of opening weekend

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Coe College softball team split a pair of neutral site games Saturday at Spalding University, picking up its first win of 2026 with a 3-2 victory over Wooster before falling 13-6 to Transylvania. The Kohawks scored two of their three runs in the bottom of the first as Irelynd Cejka and Allie Decman recorded RBI knocks to give Isabella Yell an early lead. Wooster fought back with a pair of runs in the third inning but Natalie Hitt entered for the rest of the game and shut the Fighting Scots out while allowing just one. Hitt's offense gave her the lead in the sixth as Jessica Meisinger plated the winning run with a sacrifice fly. Transylvania got the opening runs of game two in the bottom of the second but a three-spot for Coe in the top of the third gave the Kohawks the lead. The Pioneers responded with sixth in the bottom of the frame and fended off Coe despite three more runs in the top of the fourth to make it 8-6. Transylvania saw out the win with an explosive sixth, scoring four times to seal the deal.

GAME ONE
COE 3 - WOOSTER 2
  • Grace McCarty and Maddie Harris led off with back-to-back hits before Cejka's infield single allowed the leadoff hitter to score. Decman doubled the advantage in the following at-bat with a single through the middle to score Harris. Wooster leveled the game in the top of the third, scoring twice on two hits while leaving more chances on base as Yell stranded the bases loaded. The Kohawks scored the eventual game-winning run in the sixth, getting back-to-back doubles from Hitt and Brooke Peterman to make it runners at second and third. Meisinger did enough to plate run from third, delivering a go-ahead sacrifice fly before Hitt went 1-2-3 in the seventh.

GAME TWO
TRANSYLVANIA 13 - COE 6
  • Transylvania grabbed the lead in the second inning, taking advantage of a defensive miscue and two hits as a pair of runs came home on a single to right. The Kohawks answered in the seventh with three runs on two hits and a pair of Pioneer errors. Harris delivered the first with a single to left before an error allowed Coe to level the game. A fielder's choice in the following at-bat made it 3-2 for the Kohawks prior to Transylvania leaving the bases loaded with just a one-run deficit. The Pioneers got right back on top in the third, exploding for six runs on seven hits to go up 8-3. Coe threw one last punch with three in the top of the fourth on a two-run single from McCarty and an RBI double from Harris but the Pioneers would add one in the bottom of the inning and four in the sixth to end any chances.
