CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Coe College Softball team picked up a non-conference sweep Saturday afternoon at Clark Field, opening its 2026 home schedule with 8-0 and 7-1 victories over Monmouth College. The Kohawks won in five innings in game one, scoring five times in the fifth to open up a comfortable advantage for
Morgan Hewitt who earned her fourth win of the year.
Hadyn Shoots hit a two-run blast to start the scoring before RBI from
Grace McCarty and
Maddie Harris pushed it to five. Coe added two in the fourth on a single from
Jessica Meisinger before a run-scoring single from McCarty ended the game in the fifth. The Kohawks scored first in game two, taking a 1-0 lead on a single from
Irelynd Cejka. Marisa Vodicka, Cejka,
Keirah Wiseman and Harris helped cap off the win for Coe in the latter innings of the win, adding insurance for
Devan Baggett who allowed just one run in seven strong innings.
GAME ONE
COE 8 - MONMOUTH 0 5 INNINGS
- The Kohawk offense exploded in the second, getting six hits en route the five-spot. Natalie Hitt singled to start the inning and was immediately followed by Shoots, who drove a two-run homer to left center. Hewitt and Taylor Drayfahl made it four-straight hits for Coe, setting the table for an RBI groundout from McCarty to make it 3-0. Harris ended the big inning with a two-run single, sneaking a sharply hit grounder through the right side to make it 5-0. Meisinger added two more in the bottom of the fourth, driving home McCarty and Harris, who led the inning off with a walk and a single. The Kohawks walked off the Fighting Scots in the fifth, ending the game with a run-scoring single as McCarty delivered the final blow.
GAME TWO
COE 7 - MONMOUTH 1
- Cejka opened the scoring in the first, driving home Wismean with a single through the left side. Vodicka added more for the Kohawks in the fourth with Meisinger and Katelyn Bladecki scoring on a double for 3-0. Monmouth scored its lone run in the top of the fifth, using a one-out single to break the shutout. The Kohawks scored two in the fifth and two in the sixth to pad the lead for Baggett, getting a two-run jack from Cejka and RBI singles from Wiseman and Harris to make it 7-1. Baggett ran into a jam in the seventh, loading the bases with two outs before a game-ending groundout.
