ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Coe College women's basketball team makes its first appearance in the NCAA Tournament this evening at 5:15 PM, taking on UW-Platteville in a neutral-site matchup at pod host Bethel University. The Kohawks and Pioneers are matching up for the first time since the 2024-25 season when the teams met in Mount Vernon in a neutral-site contest that Coe won 68-63. Caydee Kirkham led Coe to the victory with 33 points and six assists while picking up three steals on the defensive end as the Kohawks narrowly outscored UWP 35-31 in the second half to claim the win. The Pioneers 18-8 record may not catch many eyes but they've shown well in the loaded WIAC, going 8-6 with a road win a no. 3 UW-Oskosh and three other ranked victories over Wisconsin Lutheran, UW-Eau Claire and UW-La Crosse. Platteville is led by senior Ella Mackiewicz who averages 15.1 points per game while Ashely Weir, Madalyn Reichmann and Tatum Weir average around eight points each. The Kohawks bring one of the nation's most efficient offenses into the tournament, ranking fourth in field goal percentage and fifth in 3-point percentage. That offense is paired with a solid defense that allows just 52.6 points per game which is 35th in DIII. Platteville's top-rated unit is their defense, limiting opponents to 56.0 points per game while averaging just 61.0 points on offense, 238th in the nation. The winner of this evening's opening round game will face the winner of game two between Millsaps College and host Bethel tomorrow evening in the pod championship game at 7:45 PM.
