GRINNELL, Iowa – The Coe College women's soccer team came up just short in a non-conference road contest Wednesday evening, falling 2-1 to the Grinnell College Pioneers. The Kohawk women forced three saves in the opening 45 minutes, getting shots on target from
Danielle Boche, Magdalynne Preuss, and
Elly Manning that threatened but were saved. Grinnell found the game's opening goal early in the second half, tallying its first just 26 seconds in. The Kohawks responded midway through the half, hitting the Pioneers on a quick-striking counter that was finished off by
Magdalynne Preuss, who scored after an initial shot on target was saved. Grinnell regained the lead for good with just over 10 minutes to play as a long-distance strike sailed past the outstretched hands of
Cecillie Monroe in Coe's goal. The Kohawks managed to create a set-piece opportunity with under five minutes to play but failed to take the chance as the Pioneers held on.

- Boche registered the first shot on target just over five minutes into the game, but her effort was saved. Monroe matched the save in Coe's goal minutes later, keeping it scoreless in the 10th with her first stop of the game. Monroe made two more saves in the half, being called into action in the 33rd and 38th. Preuss and Manning helped the Kohawks end the period on the front foot, forcing a pair of saves in the final eight minutes of action. Grinnell started the second half with a spark, scoring the game's opening goal less than 30 seconds in. Preuss and Coe responded well, scoring the leveler with plenty of time to keep pushing. Preuss' goal came from a long punt from Monroe, springing the forward on a one-on-one with the keeper. The junior saw her initial shot saved but stayed cool and collected the rebound before burying her first goal of the year. Grinnell withstood another charge from Coe over the next phase of the game before scoring the winner in the 78th.
