AURORA, Ill. -The Kohawks were defeated in their second match of the Jim Coleman Classic three sets to none by the Ohio Northern University Polar Bears. Coe would come out with a strong first set, keeping the score even, and eventually taking a 15-14 lead. The Polar Bears would eventually finish off the first set by taking the final two points to win the first set 25-23. All the momentum would be with the Polar Bears as they would be up 9-2 early in set two. The Koahwks would claw their way back and win five points to bring the set back to 9-7. Coe would ultimately drop set two 25-19 and be down two sets to none. The final set would start much like the second set, as Ohio Northern would lead 9-2, and would not look back from there. The final set would end 25-17 for Ohio Northern, and the Polar Bears would win the match 3-0.
GAME FACTS:
OHIO NORTHERN 3 - COE 0
- Coe would win the first two point of the first set, but would lose four straight points and see the Polar Bears take a 4-2 lead. Tessa Casebolt and Abi Bowe would continue their offensive production, winning the next two points for the Kohawks to tie up the set. The set would go back and forth, trading points before Ohio Northern would take an 11-7 lead. Coe would swing the tide of the match and take back the lead, winning four points in a row to take the 15-14 lead. It would look like Coe could take the set as they would tie it up late 23-23, but the Polar Bears would take the last two points and win the set 25-23.
- The Kohawks would struggle to stop the Polar Bear offense early on, as they would soar to a 9-2 lead. The lead was quickly trimmed down as the Kohawks would rattle off five points of their own, including three service aces by Mahri Kaczmarek. The Polar Bears would not give up the lead the rest of the set and would go on to win set two 25-19.
- Set three, like the second set, would see Ohio Northern take a 9-2 lead, winning three straight points to start the set, and then winning six straight points after the Kohawks would take two of their own. Coe was not able to find any momentum in the third set as Ohio Northern would take control, taking the final set 25-17, and winning the match 3-0.
Up next: Coe has one last match in the Jim Coleman Memorial Classic as they face Elmhurst University at 3PM on Saturday, September 5th. Next weekend, Coe heads to Eau Claire, Wis. for the Sandy Schumacher Memorial Tournament. The Kohawks will face St. Catherine on Friday, September 11, and then facing Edgewood College and hosts, UW-Eau Claire, on Saturday, September 12th.
