Women’s Soccer Takes Down Buena Vista 2-0 on Homecoming Saturday, Earns First Win of 2022

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Coe College women's soccer team picked up its first win of the 2022 season on Saturday evening, defeating Buena Vista 2-0 on Homecoming Saturday. The Kohawks dominated the match, racking up 12 shots to just four for the visiting Beavers. The opening goal came early in the second half after a scoreless first with Coe scoring the first in the 53rd minute. The Kohawks put an exclamation point on the victory with a late goal, scoring on a well-worked set piece to secure the victory. The win is Coe's first of the season and moves it to 1-13-1 overall and 1-5 in the A-R-C while Buena Vista drops to 4-9-1 and 0-5 in the league. 
 
GAME FACTS:
COE 2 - BUENA VISTA 0 
  • Coe was on top in the first half, totaling seven shots in the opening 45 minutes. Tristyn Perez and Ella Weber both tested the goal keeper, forcing saves throughout the period but the Beaver keeper ensured the game was scoreless at the half. 
  • The Kohawks continued to press in the first few moments of the period and finally found the opener less than 10 minutes in. Weber received a throw in just inside the box and turned on her defender before running on to the ball and putting it past the keeper. Coe showed no signs of slowing down despite the second-half lead, getting four shots and a corner in the next 20-plus minutes. The hosts locked up the victory with only 40 seconds to play in the match as Perez headed home for Coe after a perfectly designed set piece. Carley Balachio took a free kick just outside the box on the right flank and played a ball to the back post where Sienna Stucke headed it back towards goal for Perez, who slotted home for the Kohawks. 
 
Up next: The Kohawks are back on the pitch on Tuesday, October 19 when they host Loras College in their final home regular season game of the season.
