MOUNT VERNON, Iowa - The #20 Coe College volleyball team suffered a 3-1 defeat on Tuesday evening to local-rival Cornell College. The Kohawks, who swept the first match between the teams in early September, hit just .104 in the contest and committed 29 attacking errors. Cornell started hot, getting a 25-23 decision in the opener but the Kohawks battled back to claim set two by the same score. Maddy Maahs had 38 assists for Coe. The loss snaps an eight-match winning streak and drops Coe to 15-4 while Cornell improves to 11-5 overall.

#20 COE - CORNELL
- Coe and Cornell both struggled on offense in the opening period, recording only 13 kills each. The Rams committed seven errors but forced the Kohawks into eight as the hosts claimed an early lead. Coe, which trailed 24-19, ripped off a four-point run but Cornell hung on, scoring the final point on an error by the visitors.
- The Kohawks fought back in set two, hitting .238 as a team in the period to earn a 25-23 victory. The hosts started strong again, opening up a 4-1 lead but Coe battled to tie the set at eight. Cornell grabbed control midway through, using a three-point stretch to make it 14-12. The teams went back-and-forth for a long stretch but Coe scored the final four points of the period to even the score at one.
- Cornell dominated the third set, racing out to an early 10-2 advantage. The Kohawks clawed back throughout the rest of the period but the Rams' lead was too big to surmount. The Rams fended off a late Kohawk run and cruised to a 25-16 decision to regain the advantage.
- The hosts took care of business in the fourth and final period, defeating the Kohawks by a final score of 25-21. Coe hit just .044 in the period while Cornell had 14 kills and hit .217. The Rams again took an early lead at 9-3 and managed to hold on despite a comeback effort from Coe.
