GRINNELL, Iowa - The Coe College women's soccer team dropped its season opener at Grinnell, falling 1-0 to the Pioneers. Coe and Grinnell played a scoreless opening half which saw both teams create scoring chances. The hosts scored the game's only goal in the 68th minute after a corner kick in Coe's defensive territory. Coe registered two more shots in the second half, including an attempt in the 90th minute from
Mackenzie Jones but the visitors were unable to find the back of the net. With the loss, Coe starts the season 0-1 while Grinnell moves to 1-0-1 overall.

GRINNELL 1 - COE 0
- Grinnell had the game's first shot just over two minutes in, testing Coe keeper Liana Sweezer early in the match. Coe responded with a period of possession, putting pressure on the Pioneers with a pair of shots. Ella Weber came the closest for the Kohawks, striking the crossbar in the 9th minute of the opening half. The hosts tested the Kohawks a few more times late on in the first half but Sweezer made two more saves to keep the game scoreless after 45 minutes.
- The teams traded shots early in the second half but the Pioneers started to build the pressure with five shots in a 15-minute span. Grinnell finally found the breakthrough in the 68th minute, getting the game's lone goal from Giada Bambi. The Kohawks had one more shot before the final whistle but the attempt from Jones missed to the right of the target.
Up next: The Kohawks continue their 2022 campaign tomorrow with their first home game against UW-Eau Claire at 12 PM.
