CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Coe College swimming and diving teams opened the American Rivers Conference championships on Thursday, hosting the first day of the inaugural meet at the Coe Natatorium. It was a successful first day for the Kohawks, earning numerous podium finishes and gold medals throughout the meet. Megan Norris and Lauren Pio made headlines for Coe, setting new school and conference records throughout the day. Norris started in the preliminary session on Thursday morning, setting a new school and conference mark in the 3 Meter Diving with a score of 470.95. Norris, who went on to claim the top podium spot in the finals, narrowly missed out on the record last season and bested the previous mark by over eight points. Pio joined Norris on the top step of the podium in the finals, claiming an individual victory in the 200 IM. Pio's record time of 2:09.96 was nearly two seconds faster than the previous best which she also held. Margaret Rhodes nearly became the third Kohawk to set a new school record during the opening day of competition, winning the 500 Free with a time of 5:16.46, second on Coe's top-10 lists. The Kohawk women earned one final podium finish in the finals session, taking second in the 200 free relay as Izzy Craig, Rhodes, Valerie Gutierrez and Pio set a new top-10 mark with a time of 1:39.67. Luke Baldwin picked up a podium finish for the men in the 200 IM, improving on his third-place prelim finish to grab second place with a time of 1:58.26.
