CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Coe College swimming and diving teams continued competition at the A-R-C Championships on Friday, taking part in the second day of swimming and diving events. Coe was led by a trio of athletes who claimed individual gold medals on the day with Zach Kolker, Lauren Pio and Margaret Rhodes earning top spots on the podium throughout the night. Kolker became Coe's first male gold-medal winner at the 2023 Championships, taking home the top spot in the 100 Back. Zach's time of 50.25 was good enough to set a new school and conference record, edging the previous Coe best by just .10 seconds. Kolker also grabbed another podium finish for the men's team, taking second in the 100 Fly with a school-record time of 50.68. The Kohawk women were led by Pio and Rhodes who each took home gold in the second finals session, claiming the top spot in the 400 IM and 100 Fly. Pio kept up her record-setting performances at the championships, posting another school and A-R-C record with a time of 4:37.74. Her historic night came to a close in the 800 Free Relay for the Kohawks, posting one final school record in the 200 Free as her Izzy Craig, Natalie Thede and Rhodes secured a team gold medal with a new top-10 time. Rhodes claimed Coe's final gold medal of the evening in the 100 Fly, narrowly missing out on a new school record with a time of 58.76. Valerie Gutierrez turned in a new top-10 mark for the Kohawk women, posting a time of 1:01.99 in the 100 Fly to earn fifth place and move into the record books.
