CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The No. 22 Coe College Softball team picked up another doubleheader sweep on Wednesday afternoon, defeating Monmouth College 5-3 and 4-1 in the twin bill. The Kohawks, who extended their winning streak to 12 games, continued their season-long pitching and defensive effort, allowing just eight hits and four runs while committing just one error in the victories. Coe trailed for the majority of the opener but a strong sixth inning gave the Kohawks the lead for good. Freshman
Marisa Vodicka began the charge in the inning with a leadoff homer and later saw her team add another insurance run.
Hannah Ausenhus picked up her eighth win of the year with another complete game, striking out a season-best 10 batters.
Abbie White moved to 5-1 in game two, going six innings while allowing just one run on a solo homer.
Ellie Thurow earned her second save of the year, entering in relief of White in the seventh, working a perfect 1-2-3 frame to lock down the win. Coe had just five hits as a team in game two but got RBI from three different players as
Skyler Stookey,
Shaylee Dodd and
Addie Menke drove in runs for the Kohawks. The sweep moves Coe to 23-3 overall while Monmouth drops to 8-16.

Game Facts
- The Fighting Scots quickly jumped ahead in game one, using a pair of runs in the first inning to grab the momentum. Monmouth began the inning with a leadoff triple and later scored on a sacrifice bunt and a Kohawk error to go up 2-0. The visitors added to their lead two frames later, getting one run on one hit and one walk. The third run came in to score on an RBI groundout as the Fighting Scots extended the advantage to three.
- Coe answered with its own big inning in the bottom of the third, getting two runs on two hits and two Monmouth errors to slice the deficit to one. Nicki Wood singled with one out and later scored Coe's opening run on a Fighting Scot error. Kappeler scored the second run for the Kohawks on another error from the Fighting Scots, scoring from second on a throwing error.
- The Kohawks completed the come-from-behind victory in the bottom of the sixth, getting two runs to take the lead for good. Vodicka led the inning off with a bang, lining her second homer of the year over the left-field fence to give her team a one-run lead. Coe added an insurance run later in the sixth, scoring its fifth run on a passed ball with two outs. Coe's starter Ausenhus returned to the circle for the seventh, working a perfect 1-2-3 inning to clinch the win.

Game Facts
- Coe scored first in game two, getting a leadoff single from Heather Boeckenstedt who advanced to second with the defense sleeping. Ruby Kappeler reached in Coe's next at-bat on an error, forcing the mistake with a nicely-placed bunt. Boeckenstedt was alert on the play and continued running from second, scoring the opening run for her team.
- The offense picked up insurance for White in the third, adding two runs on two hits and one Monmouth error. Boeckenstedt and Kappeler set the table, reaching in back-to-back one-out plate appearances. Both Kohawks moved up 60 feet on stolen bases before Stookey made it 2-0 with a sacrifice fly. Dodd gave Coe a 3-0 lead in the next at-bat, singling down the first-base line to push home Kappeler.
- White continued to dominate in the fourth but saw her first bout of trouble in the fifth, allowing a leadoff homer to a one-out single. The sophomore settled down and recorded back-to-back outs, stranding a runner on second while keeping the lead at two. Coe added an insurance run in the sixth, getting an RBI groundout from Menke who drove home Dodd to make it 4-1. Thurow entered to start the top of the seventh and made quick work, getting a strikeout and two groundouts to complete the sweep.
Up next: Coe returns to the field this Saturday, April 15 for an American Rivers Conference doubleheader at Wartburg at 1 PM.
