WAVERLY, Iowa - The No. 22 Coe College Softball team saw its 12-game winning streak snapped on Saturday but salvaged a road-split at Wartburg College, falling 9-5 in game one before earning a 4-1 victory in game two. The Kohawks immediately fell behind in game one, spotting the Knights a five-run advantage after one inning as the hosts grabbed the early momentum. Coe fought back late in the game, scoring multiple runs in the fourth and fifth innings but Wartburg hung on, eliminating any chance of a rally. The Kohawks bounced game in game two, getting a dominant pitching effort from
Ellie Thurow who took a no-hitter in to the sixth inning and allowed just one run in her complete-game win. Thurow finished with four strikeouts and just two walks, forcing 11 flyouts and five groundouts. Coe had nine hits in the win, getting multi-hit performances from
Bree Mangelsen and
Skyler Stookey. The doubleheader split moves the Kohawks to 24-4 overall and 7-1 in the league while Wartburg goes to 14-12 and 4-2.

- Wartburg jumped ahead immediately in the opener, scoring five runs on four hits and one Kohawk error. The opening run came around to score on a hit batter with the bases-loaded. The Knights then cleared the bases with a double and the error, taking the multi-run lead with just one out in the inning. The hosts added one more run later in the frame, getting a two-out single to extend the advantage to 5-0. Wartburg got two more in the third, getting a leadoff double prior to a two-run homer which made it 7-0.
- Coe quickly responded in the fourth to stay in the game, scoring two runs on two hits. Stookey led off with her ninth homer of the year before a bases-loaded walk from Nicki Wood sliced the deficit to five. The Knights immediately got the runs back in the bottom of the frame, getting a two-out two-run homer to restore a seven-run advantage.
- The run barrage continued in the next inning with Coe getting three runs to again make it a game. Keera Ball picked up the opening RBI with a double to right before Marisa Vodicka made it 9-4 with a sacrifice fly. Addie Menke got the final run-scoring hit of the game for Coe, driving home Ball with a double down the right-field line. Wartburg handled the final two innings despite the charge from the Kohawks, allowing just one single over the final two frames to secure the win.

- The Kohawks responded with a strong start in game two, getting four hits and two runs in the first frame. Ruby Kappeler and Stookey reached on one-out singles before Ball earned her second RBI of the day with a single to left. Shaylee Dodd scored the second run of the inning two batters later, scoring a wild pitch to give the Kohawks a multi-run lead.
- After a quiet stretch in the game, Coe struck again in the fifth for one run. Heather Boeckenstedt was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and immediately stole second. She later came around to score in the inning after moving to third, making it 3-0 on an RBI groundout by Dodd. The Kohawks added another insurance run in the sixth, getting three hits including an RBI single from Wood, who drove home Maggie Strupp.
- The Knights finally got a hit in the sixth, singling to lead off the inning but a strong throw from Kappeler in center cut out the runner who tried to stretch the hit into a double. She allowed another leadoff hit in the seventh, giving up a solo homer for the Knighst lone run. Thurow settled back in following the blast, getting a foul out and back-to-back strikeouts to ensure the split.
Up next: Coe is back in action on Wednesday afternoon for a midweek doubleheader in Dubuque, taking on Loras College on April 19 at 2 PM.
