CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The no. 21 Coe College softball team secured its first NCAA Regional Championship since 2009 last Saturday with a championship-series sweep over UW-Whitewater and will make its first-ever appearance in the NCAA Super Regional round, hosting Hiram College at Clark Field this Friday and Saturday, May 26-27 in a best of three series with the winner advancing to the NCAA Championships in Marshall, Texas.

Coe bounced back from a day-two 3-2 loss to the Warhawks in the regional round, ripping off three-straight wins to secure the title. The Kohawks remained alive on the second day of play with their second win of the tournament over no. 17 Transylvania, defeating the Pioneers 6-4 in an elimination game to advance to Championship Saturday. The offense powered Coe to a dominant win in the opening game of the series on Saturday, hitting four homers and racking up 13 runs in a 13-4 win that forced a winner-take-all game.

Hannah Ausenhus delivered a clutch pitching performance in the final game of the weekend, tossing a complete game while surrendering just four hits and one earned run. She earned her 13th win of the year to lead Coe to the regional title while Keera Ball, Heather Boeckenstedt and Skyler Stookey picked up RBI in the win. Four Kohawks headlined the Whitewater All-Regional Team with Marisa Vodicka, Hannah Ausenhus, Heather Boeckenstedt and Skyler Stookey earning recognition while Stookey was named the Most Outstanding Player of the Tournament.

Coe welcomes Hiram College out of Hiram, Ohio and the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) for the best of three Super Regional series. The Terriers earned a spot in the NCAA Tournament after defeating top-seed DePauw in the NCAC Tournament, earning a 7-0 win in a winner-take-all game with the Tigers. The Terriers cruised through the NCAA Regional round hosted by Case Western, taking down Mount Union twice and the hosts CWRU once to claim the regional title.
