MARSHALL, Texas - The no. 21 Coe College softball team is heading back to the NCAA DIII Softball Championships for the third time in school history this week after punching its ticket to Texas with a Super Regional series win over Hiram College at Clark Field last weekend. The Kohawks, who are returning the championships for the first time since 2009, started their postseason run with a Regional Title on the opening weekend of action in Whitewater before taking down the Terriers in Cedar Rapids on May 26 and 27. Coe earned the seventh overall seed in the eight-team championship field, being grouped with no. 2 Linfield, no. 3 Trine and no. 6 Rowan. The Kohawks begin play at the championships on Thursday, June 1, taking on no. 2 Linfield in their opening game at 4 PM CT at Taylor Field on the campus of East Texas Baptist. The winner of the opening game will advance to Game 8 to take on the winner of game four between no. 3 Trine and no. 6 Rowan. The loser of Coe's opening game will face the loser from Game 4. The finals, hosted by ETBU, will be held June 1-June 7 at Bell Park at Taylor Field in Marshall, Texas. All rounds will use a double-elimination format until the championship series which consists of a best-of-three between the two remaining teams.
