ST. CLOUD, Minn. - The Coe College softball team picked up a pair of non-conference wins on Saturday evening, sweeping a doubleheader against Saint Benedict with a 5-4 victory in game one and a 4-1 win in game two. The Kohawks played the role of comeback kids in the opening game after spotting the Bennies an early 4-0 lead. Coe's offense would score three times in the fourth and two times in the sixth, getting the game-winning hit from
Marisa Vodicka as she drove home two runs with a double to make it 5-4.
Abbie White got the start and shook off some trouble from the first and second innings for a solid outing.
Ellie Thurow entered in the top of the sixth and completed the job, allowing just one hit en route to her first save of the season.
Devan Baggett dominated game two in the circle for the Kohawks, surrendering one run and four hits while striking out four. Baggett threw a complete game for the first time in her Kohawk career and was backed up by her offense that tallied seven hits and four runs.
Shaylee Dodd and
Ruby Kappeler each had a pair of hits in the game-two win while Dodd drove home a pair of runs to lead the team.
COE 5 - SAINT BENEDICT 4

- Saint Benedict quickly jumped ahead in the opening game, getting a leadoff triple and RBI in the bottom of the first inning. The hosts added three more runs in the bottom of the second, getting three hits including a pair of RBI singles. Coe's offense came to life in the top of the fourth inning, getting three straight walks to begin the frame. Bree Mangelsen gave the Kohawks their first run with an RBI single before Keera Ball drove home a pair later in the frame. Coe completed the comeback in the top of the sixth with two more runs on two hits and a free pass. Marisa Vodicka produced the ultimate game-winning hit in the inning, driving home Shaylee Dodd and Keera Ball with a double to center. Starting pitcher Abbie White settled down after the tough start and worked through the fifth inning before being replaced by Ellie Thurow to start the sixth. Coe's top hurler controlled the final two innings, surrendering just one hit while earning her first save of the campaign.

- The Kohawks got on the board first in game two, getting a two-out RBI single from Dodd who plated Ruby Kappeler. CSB quickly leveled the score in its half of the first, getting its own two-out RBI to make it 1-1. Kappeler restored the Kohawk advantage in the top of the second, delivering another two-out RBI as she singled home Rylee Newhard for a 2-1 lead. The visitors doubled their lead in the fourth inning thanks to three hits and one error. Madi Parson drove home the first run of the inning with a single to center, pushing Heather Boeckensted home from third. Dodd then secured her second RBI of the game, giving Coe a 4-1 advantage with an infield single that scored Kappeler. Coe's starting pitcher Devan Baggett was dominant throughout, surrendering just four hits and two walks in a complete-game effort. Baggett allowed two hits in the first and one in the third before ending the game with three of four 1, 2, 3 innings.
Up Next: The Kohawks return to action on Wednesday, March 27, hosting Cornell College at Clark Field at 2 PM for a Bremner Cup doubleheader.
