DUBUQUE, Iowa - The Coe College softball team extended its winning streak to 11 games on Saturday afternoon, opening A-R-C play with a doubleheader sweep of Dubuque. The Kohawks took the opening game 10-1 behind a stellar pitching performance from
Ellie Thurow and
Anna Bamlet. The two combined to allow just five hits in the five-inning victory while the offense tallied nine hits and seven RBI.
Addie Menke drove home a team-high two runs while
Madi Parson, Skyler Stookey, Bree Mangelsen and
Rylee Newhard picked up one each. The Kohawk offense again stepped up to the plate in game two, totaling 11 runs on 11 hits. Stookey hit a three-run homer in the opening inning and put Coe ahead for good despite a late charge from the Spartans.
Ruby Kappeler was 3-of-3 at the plate with a triple, four runs, one RBI and one walk to complement Stookey.
Devan Baggett and
Abbie White combined for the win in the circle with Baggett pitching the final 4.1 innings where she allowed just four hits and one earned run.

- Coe wasted no time jumping in front, scoring five runs on five hits in the top of the first. Parson doubled home Heather Boeckenstedt to start the rally before Stookey made it 2-0 with another RBI double. Bree Mangelsen then picked up an RBI with a sacrifice fly, scoring Parson from third, Additionally, Stookey scored on the same play, advancing to third on the sacrifice before scampering home as UD attempted to throw out a runner at second advancing from first. Menke ended the scoring in the inning with two outs, driving home Shaylee Dodd with a single up the middle. Coe got its sixth run in the second as Kappeler scored on a wild pitch during a Stookey walk. The Kohawks extended the advantage to 10 in the fourth with just one hit, using four straight free passes along the way. UD did manage one run before the mercy rule came into play, getting a two-out single in the bottom of the fifth to make it 10-1.

- Stookey was front and center again as Coe did its damage early in game two. The fifth-year catcher hit her sixth homer of the year, driving home Kappeler and Boeckenstedt for the early lead. The Kohawks doubled the advantage in its next at-bat, scoring three times on three hits in the second. Parson brought the first run home with a sacrifice fly before Dodd delivered a clutch two-out, two-run double with the bases loaded. UD got the runs back in the second, getting a bases-loaded single for the first two and a two-out single for the third. The hosts got one run closer in the third with another two-out hit, getting an RBI single to make it 6-4. Coe pulled away with a pair of runs in both the fourth and fifth innings, getting an RBI triple from Kappeler and a sacrifice fly from Parson in the fourth. Parson added another RBI in the sixth with a groundout to third before Stookey made it 10-4 with an RBI single to left. The Kohawks final run was scored in the top of the seventh as Natalie Hitt secured a pinch-hit RBI with a groundout to second. UD managed to score once in the bottom of the seventh but it was just consolation as Coe ended the game with a groundout and flyout.
Up Next: Coe returns to the diamond on Wednesday, April 3, taking on Illinois Wesleyan in a non-conference doubleheader at 2 PM in Bloomington, Illinois.
