DUBUQUE, Iowa - The Coe College baseball team suffered a pair of losses on Saturday at Loras College, falling 8-7 in game one and 18-4 in game two. The Kohawks raced out to a strong start in the opener, scoring five runs in the first four innings for an early 5-3 lead. Loras scored three in the sixth to regain momentum but Coe quickly answered with a pair of solo homers in the seventh from
Jake Brosius and
Ryan Thoreson, regaining a 7-6 lead. Loras pulled off the late-game heroics in the ninth, capitalizing on a pair of leadoff singles to complete an 8-7 walk-off victory. The Duhawks rode the momentum in game two, hammering out 15 hits en route to the lopsided victory. Coe got seven hits in the loss including RBI from
Creighton Kreshel, CJ Johnson and
Jack Allison.

- Coe started the scoring in the top of the first with two runs, getting an RBI double from Reid Rausch and a sacrifice fly from Allison. Loras clawed one back in the home half of the inning, scoring its opening run on an RBI single. Mitchell Eckardt restored a two-run lead in the second, doubling home Kreshel to put Coe back up 3-1. The Duhawks again responded in their half with two runs on four hits, getting back-to-back doubles to start the frame and a two-out single later on. Coe regained the lead in the top of the third on a two-out RBI from Tyce Johnson, singling home Rausch from second. Brosius gave the Kohawks an insurance run in the fourth, doubling to center to plate Jon Wille. Loras scored three in the sixth with three hits and one Coe error, getting a two-run double to tie the game and an RBI single for the lead. Brosius and Thoreson answered the call in the top of the seventh, blasting a pair of solo homers to restore Coe's slim advantage. Loras went quietly in the seventh and eighth but started the ninth with two singles. The Duhawks tied the game a few batters later with an RBI groundout and followed with a game-winning single with two outs.

- Loras jumped on the scoreboard with eight runs in the bottom of the first inning, using six hits and a pair of defensive miscues to grab an early lead. The hosts added to their advantage in the second and third, tacking on seven runs with six hits. Coe got three back in the fifth with a two-RBI double from Kreshel and a sacrifice fly from CJ Johnson. Coe's final run came in the top of the sixth from Allison, grounding out to short to push Brosius home who had doubled to lead the inning off. Loras ended the game with three runs in the bottom of the sixth before shutting out the Kohawks in the top of the seventh to secure the win.
Up Next: Coe returns home on Tuesday, April 23 for its final non-conference game of the regular season, hosting UW-Platteville at 4 PM.
