STORM LAKE, Iowa - The Coe College softball team racked up 27 runs in 11 innings on Tuesday afternoon, sweeping Buena Vista University in a pair of run-rule victories. The Kohawks bashed out 13 hits for 13 runs in a 13-4 five-inning win to start the day, getting a four RBI performance from
Ruby Kappeler who was 3-for-3 with a homer and two runs scored.
Madi Parson added three RBI in a 2-for-4 performance, recording a double and a homer to compliment Kappeler. The Kohawks tallied 10 more hits en route to a 14-4 six-inning win in game two as Kappeler again led the efforts with five RBI and her second homer of the day.
Skyler Stookey and
Shaylee Dodd also had multiple RBI in the contest, joining Kappeler in the home run club.
COE 13 - BUENA VISTA 4 - 5 INNINGS

- Buena Vista got on the board first after a scoreless opening inning, scoring three times in the second with a bases loaded double. The Kohawks immediately responded in the top of the third inning, exploding for 11 runs on eight hits and one BV error. Hadyn Shoots reached on an error to start the inning and was quickly joined by Heather Boeckenstedt who singled to put runners on the corners. Kappeler tied the game with one swing of the bat moments later, driving a three-run bomb to right field. Madi Parson and Skyler Stookey posted back-to-back doubles in the following at-bats with Stookey driving home Parson for a 4-3 advantage. Addie Menke increased the lead to two later in the frame with a one-out single, driving home Stookey with the bases loaded. The Kohawks got RBI in the next three at-bats to extend the lead to 8-3 as Shoots, Boeckenstedt and Kappeler all drove home runs. Parson put the icing on the cake a few batters later with Coe's second three-run dinger of the inning, clearing the bases with another homer to right. Marisa Vodicka ended the scoring in the top of the fourth inning with a two-run single, pushing home Keera Ball and Dodd for a 13-4 advantage.

- The Kohawks kept their momentum rolling in game two of the doubleheader, scoring four times in the top of the first inning. Kappeler did early damage again, driving home Boeckenstedt with a double to center. Parson followed suit with an RBI single, driving home Kappeler for a 2-0 lead. Stookey capped off the frame with an exclamation point, driving home two more runs with a shot to center for her seventh homer of the year. BVU got one back in the bottom of the first, getting back-to-back doubles to pull within three. Coe broke the game open in the third with another huge inning, scoring seven times on just two hits. The Kohawks capitalized on four free passes in the frame and came up with clutch hits when needed, getting RBI walks from Ball and Boeckenstedt before a grand slam from Kappeler that made it 11-1. BVU pulled back within six over the next few innings, getting four runs to cut into the lead. The Kohawks put the game on ice in the top of the sixth with three runs including a two-run blast from Dodd. Rylee Newhard claimed the final RBI of the contest with a productive groundout, scoring Nicole Wagner on the play.
Up Next: The Kohawks return to the field tomorrow, Wednesday, April 10 for a doubleheader at Cornell College. The opening game is scheduled for 4 PM with Coe acting as the home team for both contests.
