CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Coe College softball team will make its second straight appearance in the NCAA Super Regional round this upcoming Thursday, May 23 and Friday, May 24, taking on no. 7 Case Western Reserve University in a best-of-three-game series. The Spartans will play the hosts on their campus in Cleveland, Ohio at Mather Park. Game one is scheduled for 1 PM CT on Thursday, May 23 with game two set for noon CT on Friday, May 24. An if-necessary game three will follow on Friday at 2:30 PM CT. The Kohawks enter the tournament with a 34-9 mark, riding an eight-game winning streak as they swept their way through the A-R-C tournament and opening round of NCAA Regionals. Coe was one of ten schools across the nation to go undefeated in the first round of the DIII tournament, defeating Baldwin Wallace, Saint Mary's and DePauw to advance. The upcoming matchups between the Kohawks and the Spartans will be the first in the history of the two programs.
Case Western Reserve is making its third appearance in the Super Regional Round after winning its own regional championship last weekend in Cleveland. The Spartans needed a pair of wins over no. 25 Calvin on the final day of the championship but picked up 4-0 and 3-1 wins in the sixth and seventh games of the regional. CWRU is one of the nation's top-hitting teams, ranking fifth in doubles, 16th in slugging percentage, 28th in homers and 38th in batting average. Defensively, the Spartans own a .974 fielding percentage, ninth best in the nation. CWRU also boasts a solid team whip of 1.23 and an ERA of 2.35, 56th in DIII.
