CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Coe College women's tennis team was picked runner-up in Thursday's 2024 A-R-C preseason coaches poll. The Kohawks, coming off back-to-back second-place finishes, return six starters from its 2023-24 roster including three-time A-R-C MVP
Maddie Schultz.
Alli Hagness and
Sophia Fain bolster the returning squad as fellow all-conference honorees. Head coach
Mike Strydom welcomes six freshmen to the team and looks for them to help Coe make a return to the national tournament.
"With back-to-back conference second-place finishes, the Kohawks will be pushing hard to top a very tough conference this year," Strydom said. "With all starting players from last year returning, nine ITA All-Academic students on the team, and six exciting freshmen joining the team, the Kohawks are hopeful to return to the national tournament."
The Kohawks open the 2024 fall season this weekend with an individual tournament at Truman State (8/31) before a conference-opening dual at Wartburg (9/7). Coe hosts its home opener against preseason favorite and back-to-back champion Luther (9/17) before a break for the ITA Regional Championships (9/20-21). The Kohawks power through the rest of the home schedule with three more matches in September, hosting Dubuque (9/25), Nebraska Wesleyan (9/27) and Buena Vista (9/28) to conclude the matches at Clark Racquet Center. The team's regular season concludes with a trio of A-R-C road matches, facing Loras (10/2), Simpson (10/4) and Central (10/5). Finally, the fall campaign ends with the American Rivers Conference Individual Championships (10/11-12) in Pella, Iowa.
