CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Coe College women's basketball team suffered its first loss since the opening game of the season on Wednesday evening, dropping an A-R-C matchup 70-58 to the Luther College. Coe and Luther went toe-to-toe from the opening whistle, trading blows in the opening 20 minutes of action. The Kohawks narrowly edged the Norse 19-18 in the first period but Luther tied the game before the break, outscoring the hosts 10-9 in a scrappy period. Luther went on to dominate the third quarter, using an early 16-6 run to take a 10-point lead late in the frame. Coe pulled back within six before the end of the quarter but the visitors sealed the deal in the fourth, getting a 17-10 run to lead 65-52 with 3:25 to play. The Kohawks got four unanswered points from
Caydee Kirkham to get within nine but Luther answered with a game-sealing 3 one minute later. Kirkham had a team-high 21 points, adding five assists, four rebounds and three steals.
Taylor Brunson posted 14 points and was joined in double-figures by
Ellie Wisner as she finished with 12.

- Luther got off to a strong start in the opening quarter, taking a 13-8 lead just over seven minutes in. The Kohawks closed the period on top, scoring 11 of the final 16 points as Brunson scored six in the final two-plus minutes. Coe pushed the lead in the first few minutes of a slopp second quarter, scoring six of the first eight points to go up 25-20 with 5:19 remaining in the half. Luther answered with eight unanswered points, flipping the score in its favor at 28-25 with 1:32 left in the frame. Coe tied the game before the break, getting a bucket from Wisner and a free throw from Kirkham to make it 28-28. The Norse controlled the first portion of the third quarter, ripping off a 12-4 run to take a 40-32 lead. Coe limited the damage and crawled closer before the end of the period, pulling to within six at 48-42. Luther's hot shooting extended into the fourth quarter, hitting 7 of its first 13 attempts to push the lead past 10. The Kohawks got it back to single digits for a moment with four unanswered points from Kirkahm but Luther found the dagger with less than two minutes, hitting a game-sealing 3 with 1:46 to play.
