CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Coe College men's soccer team suffered a 2-1 to Central College Saturday evening at Clark Field. The Kohawks and Dutch were level through much of the first half but Central grabbed the lead late in the period to take a 1-0 advantage into the half. Central extended its lead midway through the second half, scoring against the run of play as Coe was on top in the second half. CENTRAL 2 - COE 1
- Central struck the post early in the match, firing a chance off the frame in the second minute. Coe had its first shot of the match in the ninth minute as Eliaquim fired a low driven effort on goal that was easily stopped by the Dutch keeper. The game was choppy during the next phase of play with neither team creating any true opportunities to score. Central managed to take the lead in the final minutes of the half, scoring from inside the box after a bouncing ball landed at the feet of Ethan Rodriguez. Coe controlled the first few moments of the second half, forcing a save in the 55th minute on a shot attempt from Kearney as well as a free kick just outside the box. The Dutch doubled their lead minutes later, making it 2-0 in the 71st minute on a well-worked team move that included two passes before the eventual goal. Coe got some life late in the match as Napieralski lofted a beautiful ball to the back post for Jakel who smashed home a head to make it 2-1. The Kohawks had one final chance at goal in the 89th minute as Kearney controlled the ball at the top of the box and curled a shot toward goal but his effort missed just wide.
