BUENA VISTA, Iowa – The Coe College men's soccer team picked up an A-R-C road win Wednesday evening at Buena Vista, defeating the Beavers 2-1. The Kohawks got a pair of early goals from
Ian Kearney and
Isaiah Jakel scoring the goals in a span of just over one minute and 30 seconds. Kearney, who scored his seventh goal of the season, took the pass from
Kevin Williams and beat the keeper at the near post. Jakel doubled the lead with solid finish moments later, getting on the end of a cross from
James Napieralski and burying a shot in the low corner. Coe looked to increase its lead for the remainder of the game, forcing numerous saves throughout the match. BVU made things interesting with a goal in the second half, halving the deficit in the 77th minute but Coe hung tough and saw out the result.
GAME FACTS
COE 2 - BVU 1
- Coe took the lead around the 15-minute mark of the first, pressing the Beavers near the halfway line before springing the attack. Brandon Kostelny won the initial ball and found Williams in the middle of the park. Williams carried momentarily before playing a perfectly-weighted pass for Kearney who latched on to it before slotting past the keeper. The Kohawks doubled their lead minutes later as Napieralski floated a ball into the box for Jakel who settled and struck quickly to beat an unexpecting keeper. Coe continued to pepper the net over the course of the first half and early in the second but could not add to its lead. The Beavers got back into the game in the second half, scoring in the 75th minute to pull within a goal. Coe did well to see out the remainder of the contest, limiting the Beavers to just one final shot on goal which was saved by Kohawk keeper Jr. Holland.
