DECORAH, Iowa — The Coe College Wrestling team was in action for its first tournament of the season over the weekend at the annual Luther College Open. The Kohawk men were led by
Brody Neighbor who placed first in the 133-pound elite bracket, going 5-0 with a pair of ranked victories. Neighbor picked up two tech fall victories in the opening round, compiling 33 match points while surrendering just three in the second round against a ranked opponent from Wartburg. He then followed with three consecutive decisions en route to the title, capping it off with an injury defeat in the championship match where he led 7-1 over Luther's Connor Kidd who was ranked 4th / 5th ahead of the tournament.
Wyatt Smith posted Coe's other elite-bracket podium finish, claiming sixth at 285 pounds after a 3-2 record that included a pair of bonus-point victories.
Emmitt Newton (4th, Silver 133)
, Bo Koedam (5th, Silver 165),
Justin Wirtz (4th, Silver 184) and
Henry Christensen (4th, Silver 197) secured place winning spots in the silver division while
Kendall Kurtz (7th, Freshman 125),
Holden Brazelton (7th, Freshman 133) and
Liam McLaughlin (7th, 174 Freshman) picked up podium spots in the freshman division.
