MOUNT VERNON, Iowa — The Coe College women's basketball team opened its 2025-26 season with Bremner Cup victory over Cornell College, defeating the Rams 59-40 at the Small Athletic and Wellness Center. Coe was on top from the opening whistle, outscoring the hosts 11-6 in the first quarter to establish an early advantage. The Kohawks created distance with a dominant second quarter, blowing out the Rams 23-9 to lead by 19 at the break. Coe's defense continued to stifle Cornell in the third quarter, holding it to eight points as the Kohawks increased the lead once again. The visitors continued to stretch the lead in the early going of the fourth quarter, pushing the advantage to 29 before turning to the bench for the remainder of the contest.
Taryn Kravig poured in a career-high 20 points to lead the offensive effort, knocking down 6-of-13 long-distance jumpers while
Audrie Helmrichs joined her in double-figures with 10 points. In total, nine different Kohawks registered points in the game.

COE 59 - CORNELL 40
- Cornell scored the opening basket of the contest but Coe controlled the opening quarter, scoring nine of the final 13 points to take an 11-6 lead into the second. The Kohawks exploded in the second period, answering a quarter-opening 3 from Cornell with a 9-0 run. The hosts slowed the run temporarily with a layup but Coe reestablished its dominance, finishing the half on a 12-2 run that featured 3s from Kravig and Laiken Haas. Averiel Brady opened the second half with a 3 of her own for the Kohawks, pushing the lead to 22 points just seven seconds in. Coe used another strong stretch to put the game out of reach, pushing the lead to 25 after another 3 from Kravig midway through. Coe's defense continued to smother the Ram attack, limiting the Rams to just eight points in the third period as the visitors led 45-23 heading into the fourth. Kelly Knight and Kravig put the game on ice early in the final quarter, hitting back-to-back 3s to extend the lead to 29 with 8:08 left to play. Coe's bench came in to spell the starters later in the quarter and showed well, maintaining the comfortable lead for the remainder of the contest.
