CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Coe College men's tennis team opened its 2025 season Saturday with a pair of non-conference matches, hosting Carthage College and UW-Stevens Point at Clark Racquet Center. The Kohawks split the season-opening duals, falling 5-2 to Carthage before sweeping UW-Stevens Point 7-0 in the nightcap. The opening match of the day featured a tough test as the Firebirds ranked no. 30 in the ITA DIII preseason rankings. Coe put up a strong fight in doubles but were ultimately swept, falling 6-2, 6-4 & 6-4 in the trio of matches. Carthage completed the victory in singles, securing four of six matches but
Joshua Tiemann and
Jumpei Kasai picked up individual wins for the Kohawks at number five and six singles. Coe's first win of the year came in style against the Pointers, blanking the visitors 7-0 in dominant fashion.
Bryton Short / Jumpei Kasai, Daniel Rohlman / Ivan Burt-Smith and
Luke Doig / Grant Idoux swept the doubles competition, picking up 6-2, 6-0 and 6-2 victories respectively. Short, Idoux, Rohlman, Kasai and Doig then made it two wins in the match in singles, earning their second wins in the second portion of the match. Tiemann also earned his second singles victory of the day at number three, completing his unblemished day with a 6-1, 6-1 win.
