CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Coe College student-athletes
Taylor Brunson, Jumpei Kasai and
Cooper Nailor garnered weekly honors from the American Rivers Conference Monday afternoon, being named the players of the week in their respective sports. The standout trio were honored as the women's basketball player of the week, men's tennis player of the week and the Male Athlete of the week. Brunson, a sophomore women's basketball player, earned her fifth player of the week honor this season after record-setting performances. She set a new single-game scoring record with 39 points against Luther and later broke the single-season scoring mark on Saturday against Nebraska Wesleyan, becoming the first player in program history to eclipse the 490-point mark. Kasai, a sophomore on the men's tennis squad, was a dominant 4-0 for the Kohawks, appearing in three matches throughout a busy Saturday. One of Coe's top doubles players, Jumpei posted a 3-0 record at number one doubles to contribute to three team wins. He later followed with a singles victory in the Bremner Cup match against Cornell, winning in straight sets at number one. Nailor rounds out the weekly honors for the Kohawks after a heroic week for the men's basketball program. The junior was huge in the first win of the week at Luther, scoring 23 points with five rebounds, four assists and four steals. He shot a blistering 7-of-10 from beyond the arc, setting a new career-high for 3s in a single game. Nailor fell four points shy of triple-double a few days later in Coe's double OT win over Nebraska Wesleyan, recording six points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists with two steals. Nailor's points were massive despite just three made buckets, scoring the game-tying basket in regulation before the game-winning layup in double overtime.
