ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Coe College softball team suffered a pair of defeats in its final games of the opening weekend of 2025, falling 3-0 to St. Kate's and 12-0 to host WashU. The Kohawks surrendered two run in the second inning to the Wildcats and never managed to cut the deficit, tallying just three hits in the first game of the day.
Addie Menke, Marisa Vodicka and
Jessica Meisinger had hits for Coe while
Devan Baggett had six strikeouts in a losing effort. The Kohawks fell behind early in the second game of the day, spotting the Bears a 4-0 lead after one inning. WashU went on to score four runs in both the third and fourth innings to pad the lead while limiting Coe to just two hits overall.
Maddie Harris recorded both knocks for the Kohawks, singling in the first and third innings.

- Menke gave Coe a baserunner in the bottom of the first inning but was quickly eliminated on an attempted stolen base. St. Kate's capitalized on the momentum in the top of the second inning, getting back-to-back one out doubles to take a 2-0 lead which it never surrendered. The Wildcats added an insurance run in the third, making it 3-0 with another RBI double. Coe's best chance came in the final inning, putting runners on the corners but the Wildcats escaped the jam with a game-ending groundout.

Game Facts
- The Bears exploded in the first inning, scoring four runs on two hits while taking advantage of a Kohawk error. WashU added four more runs in the third inning, using four hits including an RBI triple. Coe surrendered four again in the fourth inning as WashU put the game out of reach, using three hits and four walks to take a 12-0 lead which it held for the rest of the contest.
