CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Six Coe College wrestlers punched their ticket to the regional semifinals Friday afternoon at the Alliant Energy Powerhouse, advancing unscathed to the second day of competition at the NCAA DIII Region VI Championships.
Brayden Parke, Bryce Parke, Kael Kurtz, LJ Richardson, Jared Voss and
Mathieu Arsenault all posted unblemished records on the day, securing positions in the semifinal round set for Saturday. All but Kurtz registered two wins on the opening day of action as the freshman received a bye in the initial round.
Bryce Parke, Richardson and Voss turned in dominant efforts to lead Coe's team scoring, posting bonus-point victories in both of their wins.
Bryce Parke cruised to a first-period tech fall at 133 in the first match and later secured a fall in 50 seconds to book his place in the semis. Richardson recorded back-to-back tech falls at 174, picking up a first-period victory before winning 20-3 in the quarters. Voss was equally dominant at 184, claiming a first-period pin before a 10-1 major decision to move on to Saturday.
Brayden Parke and
Mathieu Arsenault each started their tournaments with bonus-points at 125 and 197 but the pair were forced to fight in the quarters, claiming narrow decisions to remain unbeaten. Kurtz, who sat in the first round with a bye, responded well in the quarters with a strong 7-1 victory over Loras' Jalen Schropp. All but one of Coe's wrestlers are all still alive in the tournament with
Dresden Grimm, Ty Koedam and
Damari Dancy still fighting for spots in the consolation bracket.
