Softball drops 1-0 contest to SUNY Geneseo while knocking off Old Westbury 9-1

CLERMONT, Fl. – The Coe College softball team split a pair of non-conference games yesterday at THE Spring Games, falling 1-0 to SUNY Geneseo while taking down Old Westbury 9-1. The Kohawks were their own worst enemy in the defeat, making five errors in the game including an error that allowed the lone run to score in the bottom of the seventh inning. Coe had seven hits in the game but left 10 runners on base, failing to capitalize on its opportunities. The squad bounced back well in game two of the day, bashing out nine hits and nine runs for a 9-1 victory in five innings. The Kohawks scored multiple runs in the second, third and fourth innings to reign supreme, getting RBI from five players including two from Hadyn Shoots. Abbie White tossed four innings in the win, getting her first victory of the year as she allowed just two hits and one earned run.

Game Facts
  • Coe had a pair of hits in the first inning, loading the bases after a double from shoots, walk from Maddie Harris and a single from Nicole Wagner but an inning ending strikeout kept it scoreless. The Kohawks threatened again with runners on base in the top of the fifth, getting a pair of walks to put runners on but another strikeout ended the chance. The Kohawks put a runner on third in the top of the sixth with just one out as Taylor Drayfahl caused havoc on the base path but the Knights kept the game tied with back-to-back popouts. Coe had two more runners on in the seventh with two straight one-out singles from Addie Menke and Shoots but Geneseo buckled down and got out of the jam. The Knights managed the game's lone run in the bottom of the seventh, using a pair of two-out singles to put pressure on Coe before an error allowed Geneseo to walk it off.
