Softball goes 3-1 on closing days of Florida trip with victories over Worcester State, Farmingdale State & Framingham State

CLERMONT, Fl. – The Coe College softball team wrapped up its Florida trip Thursday and Friday with four non-conference games, going 3-1 with victories over Worcester State. Farmingdale State and Framingham State and a loss to no. 6 UW-Oshkosh. The Kohawks exploded for nearly 30 runs in a pair of victories Thursday morning, defeating Worcester State 9-2 in game one before an emphatic 20-1 victory over Farmingdale State. The Kohawks fell behind to the Lancers in the opener, surrendering one run in the first inning. Coe quickly responded with a three-spot in the second, getting a pair of RBI hits from Natalie Hitt and Maggie Strupp. Marisa Vodicka added a pair of runs by herself in the third and fifth innings, blasting a pair of solo bombs to make it 5-1. Worcester grabbed one back in the sixth but Coe again had an answer, scoring four in the bottom of the inning to put the game to rest. Maddie Harris had a three-run double and was followed by Addie Menke who ended the scoring with an RBI double. Coe's 20 run outburst featured 19 hits and RBI from 11 players as the scoring started in the opening inning. The Kohawks scored four runs in the first and sixth in the second before copying the format in the fifth and sixth innings to go up 20-1. Allie Decman, Jessica Meisinger and Ruby Olson led the offense with two RBI each while Devan Baggett earned the win in the circle. Hitt was untouchable in Coe's opening win on Friday, recording 13 strikeouts while allowing just one hit and one walk. The sophomore was backed up by four runs from her offense with Harris, Meisinger and Shoots giving her an early lead with RBI knocks. The Kohawks hung tough with Oshkosh in the final game of the Florida trip, limiting the no. 6 Titans to just six hits and two runs as Abbie White and Baggett combined for a solid effort in the circle. Two early runs from UWO were enough as it held off Coe, limiting the Kohawks to two hits and one run on a double steal in the fifth inning. 
 
COE 9 - WORCESTER STATE 2

  • Worcester opened the scoring in the first inning, using a double steal with runners on first and third to go up 1-0. Coe responded in the bottom of the third inning, scoring three runs on five hits, getting three straight knocks from Vodicka, Meisinger and Hitt who drove home both runners. Strupp made it 3-1 two batters later, plating Hitt with an infield single. Vodicka delivered her first blast in the bottom of the third, driving a solo shot with one out to make it 4-1. She added another key insurance run in the fifth, hammering a two-out bomb for 5-1. Worcester cut the lead in the sixth with a two-out single but Coe's sixth inning put the game out of reach. The Kohawks had five hits, scoring four runs including a bases-clearing double from Harris as she plated Taylor Drayfahl, Strupp and Nicole Wagner. Menke concluded the scoring for the game in the next at-bat, driving home pinch-runner Anna Bamlet with a double. 
 
COE 20 - FARMINGDALE 1 - 5 INNINGS

  • Coe started the scoring in the first inning, getting two hits while capitalizing on a crucial error. The opening two runners scored on a misplayed ball before the left fielder before a wild pitch made it 3-0. Hitt then drove home the first RBI, delivering a sacrifice fly to score Vodicka. The Kohawks scored six more on six hits and one error in the second, getting RBI knocks from Hadyn Shoots and Harris to make it 6-0. Meisinger made it 7-0 later with a productive groundout and was immediately followed by a two-run error for 9-0. Drayfahl capped off the big inning with an RBI double, driving home Hitt to make it 10-0. Coe's dominance stretched into the later portion of the game, scoring four runs on five hits in the fourth as Haley Sanders and Meisinger plated runs with back-to-back RBIs. Coe made it 14 before the end of the inning, using an error for one and an RBI from Decman to cap it off. The run scoring parade concluded for the Kohawks in the fifth with another six runs, using five hits including an RBI double from Olson to start the scoring. Strupp, Decman and Katelyn Bladecki picked up the final RBI for the Kohawks before the final run scored on a defensive miscue. 
 
COE 4 - FRAMINGHAM 0

  • Coe got on the board in the first frame, scoring twice on RBI hits from Harris and Meisinger. The Kohawks added to their lead in the bottom of the fourth, using a one-out single from Shoots to score Wagner who reached earlier on a free pass. Coe, which stranded a pair in the fifth, got an key insurance run in the sixth, scoring its final run on a dropped infield fly that allowed Sanders to scamper home from third. Hitt, who was dominant throughout the game in the circle, returned for the seventh and retired the side, registering her 13th strikeout of the game during the inning.

  • Coe fell behind in the bottom of the first inning, surrendering a pair of one-out runs to the Titans who had four hits in the opening frame. Coe was held hitless until the top of the fifth but the Kohawks made a leadoff walk from Vodicka count as Meisinger moved her to third with a bunt single. A double steal later in the inning allowed Vodicka to score but Meisinger was eliminated as Coe cut the deficit to one. The Kohawks had one final chance to tie the game in the top of the seventh, getting a leadoff walk from Menke but Bamlet, who pinch ran from Menke, was thrown out to end the game on a single from Bladecki as she tried to stretch the play to third.
