CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Coe College softball team picked up a doubleheader split Saturday at Clark Field, falling to 3-1 to the College of Saint Benedict before securing a 5-4 win in game two over the Bennies. The Bennies took the lead in game one in the top of the first, scoring with a two-out single before holding the lead until the fourth. Coe got one back and tied the game on an RBI single from
Marisa Vodicka but a go-ahead single and a defensive miscue gave the visitors the lead for good. Coe responded in game two, getting a strong starting pitching effort from
Devan Baggett who earned the win in the circle. Baggett allowed three earned runs and was picked up by
Haley Sanders who lasered a three-run homer to left in the bottom of the fourth.
Maddie Harris put Coe back ahead in the bottom of the fifth, driving home
Maggie Strupp with a one-out single.
Natalie Hitt took over for Baggett in the sixth and seventh innings, earning her first save of the year as she held the Bennies hitless in the final two frames.
