CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Coe College student athletes Maddie Schultz, Taylor Drayfahl and Natalie Hitt were honored by the American Rivers Conference Monday afternoon in the league's weekly award release. Schultz, a senior on the women's tennis team, was 3-1 for the Kohawks as she picked up a pair of singles victories and one doubles win while guiding Coe to its first A-R-C tournament title since 2018. The Jasper, Georgia native claimed two wins in the semifinal against Loras before securing the trophy-winning point against Luther in a 7-6, 6-0 decision at number three. Drayfahl and Hitt were key members of Coe Softball's 4-0 week where it picked up a pair of doubleheader sweeps against Buena Vista and Simpson. Drayfahl was a dominant force at the plate for the offense, totaling seven hits, seven RBI, four runs, one double and one homer while slugging .786. The sophomore center fielder had a hit in all four games, starting with three RBI and four RBI performances against the Beavers. She followed with two hits in the opener and hit in game two against the Storm, scoring the eventual game-winning run in the 4-3 victory. Hitt was equally impressive in the circle for Coe, going 2-0 with a save in three appearances and 11 innings pitched. The sophomore righty started the week with five dominant innings against Buena Vista, allowing one earned run and six hits while fanning eight Beaver hitters. She picked up her second victory of the week in relief at Simpson in game one, tossing four innings while allowing two earned runs and five hits with the Storm scoring three times in the bottom of the 10th. She picked up her third decision of the week in game two, securing a six-out save against Simpson as she stranded the bases loaded in the sixth before a dominant closing frame.
