Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men’s Soccer holds North Central to draw on Sunday

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Coe College men's soccer team picked up a point in a non-conference match Sunday afternoon, playing to a 1-1 draw with North Central College. The Kohawks and the Cardinals were level early on in the contest, trading shots on goal in the opening 15-plus minutes. North Central grabbed the lead in the 20th minute, scoring from a quick striking move that ended with a solid finish. Coe responded well and controlled much of the remainder of the contest, ending the first half on top with a few solid chances that went missing. The Kohawks found the equalizer on 50 minutes as Marek Jesienouski won a penalty that Ian Kearney converted with ease. Coe and North Central each pushed to find a winner over the closing minutes of the half but solid saves from both keepers earned both teams a point.

GAME FACTS
NCC 1 - COE 1
  • North Central and Coe traded early shots with an attempt from Marek Jesienouski in the seventh coming as the best early chance. Alan Losoya forced another save later in the half as Coe gained momentum, forcing a stop in the 15th minute before the rebounded effort from Sebastian Pena missed just wide. North Central took the lead minutes later in the 20th, hitting Coe with a quick move after a turnover in its defensive territory. The Kohawks, who ended the first half on the front foot, picked up where they left off with pressure on the Cardinal back line. Coe's goal came from another nice sequence from the hosts as a ball was played into Jesienouski whose glancing header was saved but spilled. Jesienouski chased down the loose ball and was tripped during the effort as Coe was awarded a spot kick. Kearney calmly stepped to the spot and placed a perfectly weighted panenka to level the game. North Central tested Jr. Holland a few times before the end of the half, forcing four saves from the Kohawk keeper. Coe had the final chance of the game in the dying seconds as Pena made a lengthy run into the box and squared a ball to Jesienouski but his shot was saved as the final whistle was blown.
