Men’s Basketball second half comeback falls short as Central hits OT buzzer beater

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — The Coe College men's basketball team suffered an A-R-C defeat Wednesday evening at Kohawk Arena, falling 88-85 to the Central College Dutch in overtime. Coe and Central traded blows early on in the first half but a strong second 10 minutes gave the Dutch a 37-29 lead at the break. The Dutch extended the lead early in the second, pulling ahead by 14 at 43-29 with six unanswered points. The Kohawks responded well, slicing the deficit to just one point with a quick 17-4 spurt that was led by Deuce Walters. Coe and Central went back-and-forth over the closing stretch of regulation with the Dutch leading 75-73 in the final minute. A clutch game-tying bucket from Jackson Bowman made it 75-75 before a defensive stop sent the game into OT. Coe again fought back from behind in the OT period, getting four unanswered points from Cooper Nailor to tie the game. Central got the last laugh after a missed jumper, turning over Coe on the ensuing inbounds pass and hitting a desperation 3 as time expired to pull off the victory. Nailor hit the 30-point mark for the second straight game, finishing with 30 points, nine rebounds and three assists in a team-high 41 minutes. Walters (19), Kanyon Bryte (12) and Bowman finished the game in double-digits, rounding out the scoring efforts for the Kohawks.
