Aurora, Ill. - On Friday, September 4th, the Kohawks traveled to Aurora, Ill., for the Jim Coleman Memorial Classic and opened with a loss to the hosts, Aurora University, in three straight sets. Abi Bowe led the team in kills on the night, but it wasn't enough as the Kohawks fell to the Spartans.
GAME FACTS:
COE 0 - AURORA 3
- Aurora would jump out to an early 6-1 lead and didn't look back from there. The advantage would swell to eight as Coe trailed 8-16 in the middle of the set. In the final eight points of the first set, Aurora would win seven and take the first set 25-12.
- In set two, the Kohawks would bounce back and take a 6-4 lead with kills from Tessa Casebolt, Abi Bowe, and Naj Price. Aurora would take the lead back in the 15th point of the set and would go on to win 11 of the next 12 points making the score 19-11. The set would finish with a final score of 15-25 in favor of Aurora.
- The final saw more of the same dominance from the Spartans, kicking off the set leading 5-2. Coe had trouble dealing with Aurora's attack as the Spartans would finish the match with a team attacking percentage of .356. No comeback would be made as the third set finished 25-11 for the Spartans.
Up next: Coe finishes with two more matches in the Jim Coleman Memorial Classic as they face Elmhurst University and Ohio Northern on Saturday, September 5th. Next weekend, Coe heads to Eau Claire, Wis. for the Sandy Schumacher Memorial Tournament. The Kohawks will face St. Catherine on Friday, September 11, and then facing Edgewood College and hosts, UW-Eau Claire, on Saturday, September 12th.
