CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Coe College men's soccer team suffered a 3-0 defeat to Grinnell College on Thursday evening to open its 2022 season. The Kohawks fell behind the Pioneers 14 minutes into the first half and trailed by two just over ten minutes later when the visitors added a second. Coe had a pair of shots on target prior to the end of the half but Grinnell took a two-goal lead into the break. The Pioneers tacked on one more goal before the final whistle, converting a penalty in the 59th minute. With the loss, Coe starts the season 0-1 while Grinnell opens with a 1-0 mark.

GRINNELL 3 - COE 0
- Grinnell registered just one shot on target before the opening goal in the 14th minute but a solid strike from Noah Guyton was enough to beat Max Twight.
- Coe controlled possession immediately after the goal and quickly created a chance for Jay Ndayisenga who saw his equalizing-attempt stopped.
- The Pioneers second goal came from a set piece when the ball was whipped into the box and fell to the feet of Jaxon Willoughby. Willoughby did the rest and slotted a shot past Twight to make it 2-0.
- The Kohawks had one final chance to cut the deficit in half before the break as Kevin Williams registered an attempt on target but he was denied.
- The game was wrapped up by the visitors in the 59th, scoring from the spot to take a 3-0 lead. Guyton netted his second of the evening on the penalty after the Kohawks committed an offense in the box.
Up next: The Kohawks return to action on Saturday. September 3 at 5:30 PM when they host Dakota Wesleyan at Clark Field.
