LISLE, Ill. - The Coe College men's soccer team suffered a 5-1 defeat to Benedictine University on Saturday afternoon. The game was scoreless in the opening 25 minutes but the hosts took advantage of a penalty in the 26th, converting from the spot to take the lead. The Eagles would add another to their total just four minutes later, capitalizing on their momentum. Coe started the second half well, getting an early shot attempt in the 53rd before earning a penalty of its own in the 54th.
Sam Sanchez slotted home his second goal of the season for Coe but it was not enough with the hosts tacking on three second-half goals. The loss drops Coe to 0-3-1 while Benedictine improves to 1-1-2 overall.

- Coe started the match on the front foot, registering a shot on goal in the 8th minute but Benedictine responded with its own chance a few minutes later. The game became choppy during the next few minutes until the Kohawks were called for a foul in the box. The Eagles took advantage of the penalty, scoring past Max Twight to make it 1-0. Benedictine added to its total just over four minutes later, getting a goal from Michal Ben Szaflarski who scored off an assist from Omar Barragan. The Kohawks registered two more shots late in the period but the hosts managed to keep the first-half clean sheet and went to the locker room in front.
- It was another solid start to the half for the Kohawks, registering an early shot in the frame. Coe sliced the deficit in half less than 10 minutes into the period, earning a penalty which Sanchez cashed in on. The game went scoreless over the next 15 minutes but the Eagles restored a two-goal lead in the 69th minute with a solo effort from Habtamu Kruiswyk. Coe continued to press forward for the remainder of the game, forcing a pair of saves from the Eagles' keeper in the 74th and 81st. The hosts added two more goals before the final whistle, scoring twice in the final three minutes to ice the game.
Up next: The Kohawks are back on the pitch tomorrow afternoon for another non-conference match at Rockford with kickoff set for 3 PM.
