Football ready to travel to #12 Aurora for NCAA Playoff Opener on Saturday, November 18

AURORA, Ill. - The Coe College volleyball football team will play in the NCAA DIII Football Playoffs for the first time since 2016 on Saturday afternoon, taking on unbeaten Aurora University on the Spartans home turf in Aurora, Illinois. The Kohawks, who ended the regular season with a 9-1 record, take on the 12th-ranked Spartans who are making their fourth-straight trip to the championship.

Aurora (10-0, 8-0 NACC) is under the direction of Don Beebe, a former NFL wide receiver who played nine seasons in the league, including time under legendary Kohawk Marv Levy when he was the head coach of the Buffalo Bills. The Spartans boast one of the nation's top offensive units, ranking second in scoring, seventh in rushing and 61st in the passing. Aurora's defense is also mixed in amongst the national rankings, sitting eighth in DIII in scoring, allowing just 10.4 points per game.

Coe (9-1, 7-1 A-R-C) dropped out of this week's D3football.com poll after ranking 24th ahead of Week 11. The Kohawk defense is one of the top units across the country, ranking fifth in red zone defense, rushing defense and tackles for loss, seventh in interceptions, 10th in third-down conversion percentage, 10th in scoring. Offensively, Coe averages 474.9 yards per game, 16th in DIII. Carter Maske leads a passing attack that went for 283.4 per game and racked up 31 touchdowns to just 10 interceptions. Dominic Shepardson and Zamari Bruce are a dynamic duo on the outside for the Kohawks, combining for 1,717 of Coe's 2,834 yards through the air.
