Game Recap: Football |

Dominant defensive effort & explosive second half leads no. 21 Football to victory at Nebraska Wesleyan

LINCOLN, Neb. - The Coe College football team cruised to its nation-leading seventh win of the 2024 season on Saturday afternoon at Nebraska Wesleyan, rolling past the Prairie Wolves 50-0. The Kohawks started the game slowly, scoring just 10 points in the opening quarter before going scoreless in the second. Coe's offense came to life in the third, ripping off 26 points as Trenton Barnes, Latrell Taylor, Andrew White and Jeron Senters all found the endzone in the period. The Kohawk offense added 14 more in the fourth quarter as the reserves continued to pour it on, getting a one-yard plunge from White and a 32-yard score from Tre'sean Cunningham to make it 50-0. Coe's defense continued its dominant run in 2024, allowing 214 total yards and just 43 rushing yards. The Kohawks limited the Prairie Wolves to 1.4 yards per rush and totaled seven tackles for loss. Alex Aitchison had his second multi-sack week in a row, tallying a pair while recording two QB hurries.

GAME FACTS
  • The opening drive was nearly perfect for the Kohawk offense after the defense forced an immediate three-and-out, driving 59 yards in seven plays before Krousie hit Slade Huerta for a two-yard touchdown. Julian Garcia Ayala put the next three points on the board on Coe's next drive as a special teams punt block was recovered deep in NWU territory. The Kohawk offense failed to put seven on the board despite starting at the 10, having to settle for a 27-yard kick which Garica Ayala converted. Coe's offense threatened during a long drive early in the second quarter, marching from its own 14 down to the NWU 10 before turning it over on downs as Krousie failed to hit Devon Kollasch on a fourth and three attempt. The Kohawk defense stood up to the test on the ensuing possession, allowing the Prairie Wolves to move the ball past midfield before missing a deep 48-yard field goal attempt. Coe's offense struck again on its first drive of the second half, shaking off the slow start with a 10-play, 65-yard drive that was capped off by Barnes' eighth rushing TD of the year. Henry Ryan quickly got the offense back on the field on NWU's next drive, picking off a third-down pass to set up Krousie in plus territory. The Kohawks hit pay dirt moments later, capitalizing on the turnover with a one-yard touchdown pass to Taylor. Coe scored for its third straight drive minutes later as the defense forced another three-and-out, getting a seven-yard score from Andrew White to go up 29-0. Senters capped off the incredible quarter with Coe's fourth straight TD drive, hauling in a 47-yard bomb from Krousie for his eighth TD of the season. The Kohawks put two more touchdowns on the board early in the fourth quarter, pouding in two more rushing scores from one yard and seven yards out as White and Cunningham put the icing on the cake.
