Maahs & Casebolt earn MVP & Rookie of the Year honors, Akins & Adams selected as A-R-C Staff of the Year in Volleyball postseason awards

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Coe College volleyball program swept the 2024 American Rivers Conference major postseason awards, taking home the MVP, Rookie of the Year and Coaching Staff of the Year honors. Maddy Maahs, a junior setter, was selected as the league's Most Valuable Player while Tessa Casebolt, a freshman pin hitter, was named the A-R-C Rookie of the Year. Head coach DeAnn Akins and assistant coach Joe Adams completed the sweep of the major awards, earning the conference's Coaching Staff of the Year honor. Maahs and Casebolt were key cogs for the Kohawks, who posted their third consecutive 20-win season en route to the A-R-C regular season title. Akins and Adams helped Coe to a winning record in nationally and regionally ranked matchups, going 4-3 against nationally ranked teams and 6-4 against regionally ranked opponents. The Kohawks had three other players recognized by the league in the awards release as Maggie Furlong, Kelsey Hansel and Gracie Urbatsch were named to the all-conference team.

Maahs, a junior from Epworth, is earning Coe's third Offensive MVP honor in five years, joining Elli Teeple and Madi Parson in the exclusive club. She started in all eight conference matches, averaging 1.42 kills and .32 blocks per set. Casebolt hit .231 in A-R-C contests and recorded at least five kills in six of eight matches. The Linn-Mar prep product also secured a spot on the honorable mention team, becoming Coe's first freshman to earn the honor since 2022.

Furlong, a junior from Galena, Illinois, totaled 87 kills in Coe's eight regular season league matches, averaging 2.81 kills per set while attacking at a .322 clip. Defensively, she was second on the team with 2.71 digs and .52 blocks per set. Furlong, earning her first career all-conference honor, had 12-plus kills in four of eight matches, registering 15 against Loras in the conference title-clinching match.

Hansel, a junior from Edgewood, is picking up her first all-conference honor after finishing second on the team with 90 kills in conference matches.
