CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Coe College softball team split a pair of games with Grinnell College in its 2024 home opener, falling 3-1 in game one before a 7-2 victory in game two. The visitors scored three runs in the opening three innings of game one win, using a pair of sacrifice flies and a two-out RBI hit to grab a lead. Coe got its lone run from
Rylee Newhard in the bottom of the fourth inning but 12 runners left on base ultimately cost the hosts in game one. The Kohawks responded in game two, racking up 10 hits in support of a solid pitching performance from
Devan Baggett. The sophomore had a no-hitter through five innings but ran into some trouble in the fifth before working out of the jam.
Skyler Stookey's RBI single in the first and
Bree Mangelsen's three-run homer in the second proved enough for Bagget and
Ellie Thurow, who entered in the seventh for the final three outs.
