CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Coe College men's soccer team is unbeaten through its first two matches of the 2024 season after securing a goalless draw against Grinnell and a 2-0 victory over St. Scholastica this past weekend. The Kohawks, off to their best start since 2013, looked strong from the first whistle against the Pioneers on Friday. Despite not finding the back of the net, Coe out-shot the visitors 10-7 and forced four saves out of the keeper. Sunday's victory against St. Scholastica was more of the same for Coe, edging the Saints 8-6 in the shots category.
Juan Suarez began the scoring for Coe in the fifth minute before
Ian Kearney sealed the victory in the 81st with the Kohawks' second goal.
Jr. Holland recorded a pair of clean sheets on the weekend, making three stops in both games.

- Kearney forced an early save against Grinnell, firing a shot on target in the fifth minute that was saved well by the keeper. Coe continued to build the pressure, getting two more chances a few minutes later, including an effort from Suarez that was also saved. Kearney saw another chance go by in the 30th minute as he blazed an effort off the bar. Moments later, Mateo McLean had Coe's final chance of the half, delivering a shot on target that was again saved. Holland kept it scoreless in the 38th minute as the Pioneers tested him but the returning all-conference keeper was up to the challenge. Each team had chances late in the second half to secure the win but a 79th-minute save from Grinnell and an 89th-minute save from Holland meant the squads had to settle for the draw.

- The Kohawks jumped out to an early lead in their second home match of the weekend, scoring with their first attempt on target as Suarez netted the opener. Kearney sprung the attack before Suarez recorded the team's first goal of the campaign. Holland was called to action later in the half, keeping the Kohawks in front with a strong save in the 40th minute. He quickly made another important save in the first few minutes of the second half, keeping the Saints off the board with a 52nd-minute stop. Kearney put the game on ice in the 81st minute, taking a pass from McLean before burying his first goal of the season. Holland made on final save to ensure his second clean sheet of the weekend, coming up with a save in the 85th minute to seal the deal.
