- Coe capitalized on a solid start with the opening goal as Juan Suarez found Kearney down the right channel. A perfectly floated cross to the back post gave Jakel a chance to leap above his defender and place a header past the keeper. Mei made it 2-0 with a beautiful strike, hammering a shot from outside the 18 past the keeper into the top corner. UD got its first goal moments later, using a transition move to halve the deficit. Another quick-moving attack resulted in the second goal for Dubuque, turning Coe over in its defensive territory before springing the counter. Dubuque was awarded a penalty early in the second half after a challenge in the area, converting the spot kick in the 56th minute to take the lead. The Spartans made it 4-2 just over a minute later, scoring with a headed effort from a corner to double the advantage. Coe's penalty came with just over 15 minutes left in the match as Kearney was taken to ground in the box before burying a panenka style penalty down the middle of the goal. Coe had a chance to level the game in the final minute but a point-blank header attempt from Sebastian Pena was somehow saved with UD hanging on for the point.
