STORM LAKE, Iowa — The Coe College volleyball team started the weekend with a dominant 3-0 sweep over Buena Vista University Friday evening. The Kohawks, who improved to 5-1 in league play, were led by
Maddie Harris who posted 15 kills with a .500 hitting percentage as she paced an impressive Kohawk attack throughout the match. Coe won the opener 25-21 and followed with a 25-19 decision to set up the clincher. The Kohawks put together another strong set in the third, winning 25-17 to seal the victory. Harris was followed by
Avery Beckett (nine kills) and
Tessa Casebolt (seven kills) with both hitting well over the .300 mark.
Kelsey Hansel had a team-high 21 digs on defense while
Najolie Price had a career-high four solo blocks.

- The opening set was back-and-forth with Coe leading 15-14 over halfway through the frame. A late stretch from the visitors secured the first frame, with Coe using a clutch four-point stretch to establish a lead. Harris, Beckett and Price finished off the set with three kills in the final four points to make it 1-0. Coe ripped off a 7-2 run to begin set two, building the early lead to take control. Buena Vista closed the gap with a three-point string, getting within two at 13-11. Coe used a pair of three-points stretches in the closing moments of the frame, using the runs to help grab the 2-0 advantage. BVU fought for the early portion of set three, trailing by just two at 14-12. The Kohawks put their foot on the gas in the final stretch, scoring eight of the next 11 points to establish a comfortable lead. Coe made it 23-16 with a kill from Harris and later 24-16 with a block from Price before a match-ending error from the Beavers.
